The Day is Here (FINALLY!!!)!

I know, I know, this isn’t REAL baseball. But it is actual, live baseball that we get to watch and it is exciting. I can’t remember the last time Cubs fans felt this good about things going into a season, and what’s not to feel good about? Let’s count just a few of our blessings.

First, the Cubs have the most interesting man in the world as their head coach (I’m sorry, but he reminds me of that guy in the Dos Equis commercials and I love it). Joe Madden isn’t just one heck of a coach, he’s a freaking entertaining, all around fun guy to watch and I can really appreciate that. Let’s not forget that the guy has one of the sweetest 70s vans I’ve ever seen and that includes vans seen in the actual 70s.

Next, they are flush with an amazingly talented team. The big league team, currently favorites to win the World Series, and the farm system, ranked as high a fourth, both are oozing with talented guys, good guys, hard working guys that want to win. Theo Epstein (and the less appreciated but just as worthy in my eyes, Ricketts family) have built a winning culture not just at the big leagues but throughout the entire organization. In an age where it seems everyone is trying to get as big a payday as possible, the Cubs have guys coming to the team (David Ross, Jason Heyward,  Jon Lester, John Lackey, Ben Zobrist, Dexter Fowler) who have clearly put winning with the Cubs ahead of the normal self interests we see too often in professional sports.

I am excited! I am ready to watch some baseball! I can’t wait to see what this team does!
