Post Game: Cubs v Angels – Spring Training Game 2
Great day at Sloan Park today. I’ve decided that being surrounded by Cubs fans is one of life’s greatest pleasures. It sure felt awesome to see the record crowd today of 15,466. Not just a Cubs record but a single-game Cactus League record as well. You could feel the positive energy and good vibes all around.
Speaking of good vibes, in the top of the fourth inning David Ross made an incredible diving catch and then, without hesitation, popped right up and threw a dart to throw out a runner attempting to advance to second. He looked spry and more than able on the play. Probably the play of the game.
Addison Russell muscled a towering shot over the left field wall in the bottom of the fourth inning. I absolutely love it when good offense follows incredible defense. It’s great to see Addison getting comfortable at the plate early in the spring. I really believe his offense is going to hit a whole new level this year once the season gets rolling.
It was also an amazing father/son day at the game for me and Wyatt. Between innings we walked down our aisle to get a closer view of the field. Wyatt waved (very enthusiastically, of course) at third base coach, Gary Jones, who was nice enough to wave back. We turned around to walk back up to our seats and a bunch of people started telling us to turn back around. We did and there was Gary tossing us a ball. It was such a nice moment I just had to share it with you all. It’s so cool to be able to experience things like that with your family and really just makes us love the Cubs that much more (as if that’s possible!!).
