Chicago Cubs Lineup: Hammel on the Hill, Bryant Back at Third Base
The Chicago Cubs (59-40) move their crosstown rivalry match up to Wrigley Field tonight and look to try and scrap out a split with the Chicago White Sox (50-50) if they can win tonight and tomorrow.
Jason Hammel (9-5, 3.35 ERA) will take the ball tonight for the Cubs. He’s pitched well in his last three outings touting a 2.81 ERA along with two wins and one no-decision.
Kris Bryant is back in at third base after playing DH in yesterday’s game. He slid head first into second base – something he said he wasn’t going to do again after he nailed his head sliding head first last season – in Monday’s game and was put in as DH on Tuesday by Joe Maddon in order to get some time off his feet but keep his bat in the order.
Javy Baez is in at second base for the third straight game. Ben Zobrist will play left field.
Willson Contreras is out of the lineup for the second straight game, that’s after he’s started 28 consecutive games for the Cubs and reached base safely in 18 straight games. We’re assuming this is just normal rest for Willson and haven’t heard anything to the contrary.
Here is tonight’s #Cubs lineup against the #WhiteSox.
