Chicago Cubs Lineup: Montgomery on the Hill, Soler in LF, Baez Rests
Mike Montgomery (4-5, 2.41 ERA) is all set to make his second start for the Chicago Cubs (81-45) tonight as they set to battle the Los Angeles Dodgers (71-56) at Dodger Stadium. Montgomery had a bit of a bumpy start after he was traded to the Cubs from the Mariners, giving up a run in each of his first three outings, but since has allowed no runs in his last four relief appearances and only one run in his first start last week against the Rockies in Coors Field where, as we all are keenly aware, anything can happen.
This lineup is what I’d consider a pretty standard fare. It’s hard to conceptualize that a team could still field a lineup this effective all while knowing they’ve got Javier Baez, Willson Contreras, Matt Szczur and David Ross riding the pine. Quite impressive and a wonderful place to be heading into September with a 14 game lead in the NL Central.
