Kris Bryant Wins BBWAA 2016 National League Most Valuable Player of the Year Award in Landslide

Congratulations goes to Kris Bryant who has been awarded the 2016 National League Most Valuable Player of the Year Award by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Bryant becomes the first Cubs’ player to win the MVP Award since Sammy Sosa in 1998 and he is the fourth player in MLB history to win Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player in back-to-back seasons, joining Cal Ripken, Jr. (’82/’83), Ryan Howard (’05/’06) and Dustin Pedroia (’07/’08).

For Bryant, he becomes the only player in history to win College Baseball Player of the Year, Minor League Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player of the Year in consecutive years. A remarkable achievement for the Chicago Cubs’ 2013 first round draft pick (2nd overall) who, at age 24, won’t be a free agent until 2022. Um, that’s five more years of Kris Bryant and that, my friends, is a pretty awesome thing.

Kris was incredible this year but his biggest game was on June 27th against the Cincinnati Reds in Cincinnati where he went 5-for-5 with four runs, six RBI, a double and three home runs. Here’s video clips of each of those home runs.
