Chicago Cubs Lineup: Jay Leads Off, Schwarber Batting Third, Candelario at First, Rizzo Sits
Joe Maddon has constructed one heck of an interesting lineup today, assuming the game even gets played with thunderstorms in the forecast for the Denver area.
Jon Jay, who currently leads all of the regulars with a .432 on-base-percentage, is slotted into the top spot in the order. Kyle Schwarber has been moved below Kris Bryant, batting third in the order. Just behind Schwarber is Jeimer Candelario batting cleanup.
Anthony Rizzo, who’s started all 33 games for the Cubs so far this year, will finally get a day off. Candelario will take over duties at first base.
Kyle Hendricks has been moved to the ninth spot in the order today as well. Maddon has batted the pitcher in the eighth spot for most of the year. Of course, part of the reasoning behind that was to try and increase RBI chances for Schwarber batting in the leadoff position. With Jay up top, Maddon has decided to shuffle things around a bit. Should be fun.
