Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis Decline Qualifying Offers, Enter Free Agency
No surprises here, but today we got the official word that Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis declined the qualifying offers (one year, $17.4 million) extended to them by the Cubs. None of the players that received a qualifying offer accepted, and that includes potential Cubs’ target Alex Cobb.
Should Arrieta and/or Davis sign elsewhere, the Cubs will receive a pick in the 2018 draft for each. Of course, this does not preclude the Cubs from re-signing one or both pitchers, but the team will now at least receive something in return. We laid out the qualifying offer process earlier if you want to further understand exactly how it works.
No surprise but Arrieta and Davis both rejected qualifying offers from #Cubs
