Cubs Roster Moves: Rowan Wick Called Up, Xavier Cedeño to IL
The Cubs’ bullpen shuffling continues Wednesday afternoon as the team called up RHP Rowan Wick from Triple-A Iowa and placed LHP Xavier Cedeño on the injured list with wrist inflammation.
Xavier Cedeno to the IL with a left wrist injury (inflammation) – same issue he had to begin the year.
Rowan Wick is up from Triple-A and in Cubs bullpen.

With the promotion of Rowan Wick to Chicago the Cubs are getting a guy that struck out guys at a 31.7% clip and walked 6.3% in Triple-A. He’s a big dude (I described him as being able to bench 3 Lewis Brinsons) and has a short arm motion with plenty of velocity on his FB/SL combo

Wick earned the promotion by putting up stellar numbers in 13 games to start the season with the Iowa Cubs. He tossed 19.0 innings over those 13 games (so he is able to work multiple innings) with a 2.84 ERA and a 5:1 K:BB ratio. Wick made his MLB debut in the 2018 season with the San Diego Padres where he posted a 6.48 ERA over 8.1 innings of work.
The pitcher confirmed his arrival earlier sharing a video of Wrigley Field on his Instagram story.
It’s certainly been a disappointing go of things so far for Xavier Cedeño, however, as he hits the injured list with the same injury that set him back during Spring Training. He tossed just 2.0 total innings for the Cubs this season across 5 games. While he didn’t allow any earned runs, a lefty specialist allowing at least a hit or a walk in every appearance isn’t going to get the job done.
