Chicago Cubs Lineup (2/22/20): Bryzzo Tops Order, Kipnis at 2B, Souza in LF to Open Spring
Chicago Cubs baseball is on the air! Well, sort of. Marquee Sports Network doesn’t have all of its coverage deals worked out and moving the start time back means 670 The Score won’t have the radio broadcast due to the Bulls game, but there is still a game scheduled.
Kris Bryant will be leading off at third, followed by Anthony Rizzo at first and Javy Báez at short. Jason Heyward is cleaning up in right, Willson Contreras is behind the plate, Jason Kipnis is at second, and Steven Souza Jr. is in left. David Bote at DH and Albert Almora Jr. in center complete the lineup.
Alec Mills will take the mound as the Cubs’ first starter of the spring, though he may end up sliding into a bullpen role once the regular season starts.
Don’t put too much stock in what you see these first few days, whether it’s the batting order or the results. That said, it’s a little interesting that Kipnis is in there at second to open things up. The Cubs are likely to give him every opportunity to win the starting job there, so getting off to a strong start would really help to solidify some of their roster decisions.
First pitch was pushed back to 7:10pm CT due to rain, but Marquee will have the coverage if they’re able to get the field ready for action. Even though you won’t be able to listen on the actual radio, those of you without Marquee can stream the audio online at 670’s site or through MLB.com and the MLB At Bat app.
