Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (8/25/21, Game 1): Cubs 5, Rockies 2 (F/7) – Wisdom Blast Gives Cubs Rare Series Win
The Cubs welcomed the Rockies for the first of two games Wednesday at Wrigley Field following Tuesday’s postponed game. Chicago was able to take a win thanks to three big home run swings.
Colorado took an early lead when C.J. Cron homered off of Zach Davies in the top of the 2nd inning. David Bote tied the game in the bottom half of the frame with a solo shot off of starter Austin Gomber.
The Rockies seized the advantage back in the 3rd inning on a Brendan Rodgers RBI single. Austin Romine was the unlikely hero to tie things up in the 4th, hitting a home run to knot the game at two.
Patrick Wisdom, who else, was the one with the really big blow Wednesday afternoon. The Cubs slugger really leaned on a hanging Gomber slider for a game-winning three-run dinger. Codi Heuer and Adam Morgan closed out the Chicago victory. (Box score)

- Bote and Romine each had a single in addition to their home runs.
- Of Wisdom’s 21 home runs, 16 have come at Wrigley Field.
