Cubs Sign RHP Chris Flexen to Minors Deal
Pitching depth has been a key part of this offseason, and Jed Hoyer is holding strong to that belief even with spring training underway. Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reported on Monday that the Cubs have signed former White Sox righty Chris Flexen to a minor league deal.
Sources tell @Ken_Rosenthal and me that the Cubs have added pitcher Chris Flexen on a minor-league deal pending a physical. Flexen tossed 160 innings last season with the White Sox. Another depth piece for the Cubs rotation.

The 30-year-old is entering his eighth season in the majors and has logged 647.2 innings in 153 games. As Sharma notes, Flexen appeared in a good number of games for the White Sox with a 4.95 ERA and 1.3 fWAR. Pitching injuries are extremely common, leading to high odds that Flexen sees the major league team at some point this season.
