Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/25/25): Cubs 4, Braves 2 – W in Spring Finale
The Cubs played their final game of the spring against the Braves at Sloan Park on Tuesday afternoon. Most of the starters were out after the 4th inning but Chicago was able to score late and win to wrap up the exhibition schedule.
Dansby Swanson put the North Siders in front with an RBI double in the bottom of the 1st inning. Newly minted fifth starter Ben Brown threw pretty well despite giving up a two-run homer to former Marlin Bryan De La Cruz that put Atlanta in front 2-1 in the 4th.
The Cubs evened the score on a 5th inning RBI single by Carter Trice that scored Jon Berti. Big slugger Haydn McGeary blasted the eventual game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the 8th as Chicago prevailed 4-2. (Box score)
Key Moment
Swanson drove the ball hard for his automatic double and appears to be fully healthy after an injury-plagued 2024.
Why the Cubs Won
They kept the powerful Braves lineup in check, unlike on Monday when they went off for 13 runs.
Stats That Matter
- Brown gave up some hits but mostly did a good job: 4.1 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 4 K, and 1 BB.
- Swanson had two hits on Monday.
- Sam Armstrong pitched the final four innings and gave up nothing to earn the win: 4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 6 K, and 0 BB.
Bottom Line
The Cubs successfully navigated spring training and two regular-season games in Japan without any major injuries and appear to be ready to go for the season. That is by far the most important thing when it comes to the Cactus League. Now it’s time to begin the 160-game marathon and see what Craig Counsell‘s team is made of. Ready or not, here we go.
