Watch: Reese McGuire Homers TWICE in Cubs Debut
Reese McGuire was added to the Cubs’ roster on Sunday morning, replacing Miguel Amaya. He posted an .827 OPS with the Iowa Cubs, hitting three home runs in 22 games. It didn’t take long for McGuire to hit his first home run as a Cub, launching a 0-2 curveball deep off Nick Lodolo.

McGuire’s second home run came just six innings later, this time off a Taylor Rogers sweeper in the eighth. The game-tying shot traveled 351 feet.

While he likely won’t be hitting two home runs a game, the fact that both long balls came off left-handed pitchers is worth noting. Hitter handedness may not be the most critical factor in evaluating catcher matchups, but it’s an impressive start nonetheless.
