Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (7/10/25): Cubs 8, Twins 1 – PCA Homers Twice in Win
The Cubs and wrapped up their series against the Twins at a cloudy Target Field Thursday afternoon. Chicago was determined to create a different outcome after two consecutive defeats and played excellent baseball in a comfortable victory.
Unlike the previous two games, it was the North Siders that went in front early when Nico Hoerner hit an RBI single off of Chris Paddack in the top of the 2nd. Pete Crow-Armstrong snapped out of a little slump with a two-run homer to center that gave the road team a 3-0 lead in the 3rd.
Colin Rea was very sharp for the Cubs Thursday, going seven strong frames and only allowing a solo home run to Kody Clemens in the bottom of the 5th. That solo shot came after a sacrifice fly by Matt Shaw in the 4th and back-to-back run scoring singles from Michael Busch and Dansby Swanson in the 5th that made it 6-1.
PCA whacked his second home run of the afternoon in the top of the 7th, this time a solo shot off of left-hander Anthony Misiewicz. Busch brought home one more run with an RBI groundout in the 9th as Chicago salvaged the final game 8-1. (Box score)
Key Moment
Minnesota had two runners on base with nobody out in the bottom of the 2nd trailing by a run. Carlos Correa hit a hard ground ball to Swanson, who made a nice backhand stab and started a double play that short-circuited the rally.
Why the Cubs Won
A quality starting pitching effort and the offense waking up was more than enough to win this one.
Stats That Matter
- Rea is pitching much better after pretty rough stretch a few weeks back: 7 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 5 K, 2 BB.
- Crow-Armstrong had a double in addition to the two homers Thursday.
- Seiya Suzuki registered three hits in this game.
Bottom Line
That was hardly a must-win game for the Cubs, but it was nice to avoid any kind of a losing streak. Rea is going to be important to Chicago’s rotation for the rest of the year with other starters suffering injuries, so it would be very helpful if he could keep pitching like Thursday. You can only keep PCA under wraps for so long before he starts doing damage, which the Twins learned in this game.
On Deck
The Cubs travel to New York to finish the first half against the Yankees starting Friday at 6:05pm CT. Chicago hasn’t named a starting pitcher to face Carlos Rodón in the game that will be broadcast on Marquee with a radio feed on 670 The Score.
