Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (9/24/25): Cubs 10, Mets 3 – Offense Reaches Double Digits to Break Losing Streak

The Cubs jumped out to a big early lead for a second consecutive game against the Mets Wednesday night at Wrigley Field. Unlike Tuesday, Chicago continued to score in the late innings and won rather easily to snap their five-game losing streak.

The North Siders really got to young starter Jonah Tong in the 3rd inning when they scored five runs. Ian Happ hit a two-run double right down the right field line to get his team on the board. Moisés Ballesteros singled and Seiya Suzuki had a double of his own to make it 4-0.

Pete Crow-Armstrong finished the big frame with a sacrifice fly, and Matt Shaw added a solo homer to bring the score to 6-0 in the 4th. Cubs starter Matthew Boyd had his only blemish when Francisco Alvarez hit a two-run homer in the top of the 5th to cut the margin to 6-2.

PCA created a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the frame, with the first coming when he forced a throwing error on a grounder to third base to score one. Then he came all the way home from second on a wild pitch by Clay Holmes. Michael Busch blasted a two-run shot in the 6th and the rout was officially on with Chicago ahead 10-2.

Daniel Palencia returned from the IL and got two outs in the 6th inning. Aaron Civale gave up one run over the final three innings to pick up a save as the North Siders finished off the 10-3 victory. (Box score)

Key Moment

The Cubs put up a crooked number and knocked a starter out early for the second game in a row, which should be a great sign going forward.

Why the Cubs Won

The offense kept rolling and took the pressure off the bullpen.

Stats That Matter

  • Boyd bounced back nicely against a very tough New York lineup: 5.1 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 3 K, 1 BB.
  • Ballesteros reached base three times and scored two runs.
  • Busch had two more extra base hits and leads the team with 31 home runs.
  • Shaw had three hits of his own.

Bottom Line

This was a big day for the Cubs, who are now in a much stronger position to secure home-field advantage with the Padres also losing. Getting Palencia back will provide a big boost to the ‘pen. If they can also get Kyle Tucker back in the lineup, which Craig Counsell said should happen Friday, they might even have a little bit of optimism heading into October.
