Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (10/11/25): Brewers 3, Cubs 1 – Bats Go Quiet in Season-Ending Loss

The Cubs’ season came to an end Saturday night at the hands of the Brewers in Game 5 of the NLDS. Chicago’s bats went quiet, a problem that plagued them throughout the second half of the season, and Milwaukee hit three solo homers to provide the winning margin.

Drew Pomeranz served as the opener for the North Siders and retired the first two hitters before William Contreras lifted a home run just over the left field wall to put the Crew on top 1-0. The Cubs answered immediately against Jacob Misiorowski in the top of the 2nd with a solo homer off the bat of Seiya Suzuki that evened the score.

Colin Rea took over for Pomeranz and pitched well until he gave up a go-ahead homer to Andrew Vaughn with two outs in the 4th to give Milwaukee a 2-1 advantage. Later in the frame, Daniel Palencia retired Joey Ortiz on a forceout with the bases loaded to keep Chicago’s hopes alive.

The Cubs mustered very little offense against a series of Brewers relievers, with their best chance coming with two and nobody out in the 6th, but that would go for naught. Brice Turang provided insurance with a long solo shot off of Andrew Kittredge to give Pat Murphy’s squad a 3-1 lead in the 7th.

Milwaukee used closer Abner Uribe for six outs to save the game and end the year for the North Siders as they went down to defeat by the same 3-1 margin. (Box score)

Key Moment

Michael Busch singled and Nico Hoerner was hit by a pitch to put two on with nobody out in the top of the 6th and the Cubs trailing 2-1. Aaron Ashby struck out Kyle Tucker and was replaced by Chad Patrick, who got Suzuki to fly out before striking Ian Happ out looking to end the threat.

Why the Cubs Lost

They had just two hits after the 2nd inning, and that obviously wasn’t nearly enough to pull out a win.

Stats That Matter

  • Busch had a walk and a single to close out a very good postseason.
  • Hoerner also reached base twice.
  • The rest of the team reached base a total of two times.

Bottom Line

The Cubs fought back hard from an 0-2 hole to force a winner-take-all game. The problem was that the offense went cold yet again, which was a nagging issue from July on. It was a very good season for overall, but there is definitely room for improvement going forward. This is going to be a big winter as the front office tries to upgrade the North Siders from division contender to World Series contender.

On Deck

The Cubs will return to Mesa for spring training in February 2026.
