3 Cubs Players, Team Named Silver Slugger Finalists

The National League Silver Slugger finalists were announced on Wednesday, with the Cubs receiving three player nominations: Nico Hoerner, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Kyle Tucker.

Hoerner made a run for the National League batting title near the end of the season, although Trea Turner ultimately edged him out by just seven points. He had the best year of his career, helping lead the Cubs to 92 wins with excellent play on both sides of the ball. His 7.6% strikeout rate was the third-lowest in baseball, and his 11.2% whiff rate ranked among the best in the sport.

It was a breakout season for Crow-Armstrong, who had a monster first half that put him in early MVP talks. Before the All-Star break, the center fielder posted an .846 OPS, which dropped to .634 in the second half—a noticeable decline in production. Nonetheless, his overall season numbers were impressive. He recorded a 109 wRC+ in 157 games and slugged 31 home runs, becoming just the second player in Cubs history to join the 30/30 club.

“Disappointing” might be one way to describe Tucker’s season with the Cubs. He started the year at an MVP pace, although a midseason injury derailed hopes of an award-winning campaign. In a sense, the label feels unfair, as it diminishes what was an otherwise strong offensive performance. Recency bias is real and may cloud the judgment of fans who saw Tucker miss nearly all of September as the Cubs pushed to win the NL Central. His 136 wRC+ was second-best on the team, just four points behind Seiya Suzuki.

Finally, the entire Cubs lineup was nominated for the National League Offensive Team of the Year, competing against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks. Craig Counsell’s team ranked third in the National League in home runs and scored 793 runs during the regular season. They showcased both power and speed, making them one of the most well-rounded teams in the league. Thinking back to a game that exemplified this offense, their victory over the Diamondbacks on April 18, 2025, stands out as a defining performance.
