The Rundown: Bryant Hits Scoreboard with 495-Foot HR, 2 Memorable Curtain Calls, Carl Edwards Being Called Up? Almora to DL
The final month of the Cubs’ 2003 series will always hold a special spot in my heart. It was my senior year of college, and my friends and I didn’t dare miss a single game. Because the Cubs seemingly won Every Single Day.
Looking back, they may not have literally won every day, but the Cubs had a very good September and finished the year on a 19-8 run.
That final month, as well as the playoffs leading up to a certain Game 6, was the most fun I have had as a Cubs fan.
Up until this year, that is.
The 2015 Cubs season has been jam-packed with memorable moments. Seriously, the season-ending montages are going to be unbelievable.
Yesterday’s game was yet another example. First comes Kris Bryant obliterating a baseball in the 5th inning for his 23rd home run of the year. It was the farthest-hit homer in MLB this season, at an estimated 495 feet. Unbelievable.
But the moments kept coming. Miguel Montero broke the game open with a grand slam. Wrigley went nuts, and Montero went for the curtain call. The best part? He didn’t have a hat available close by, so he grabs Kyle Schwarber’s:

Even Jonathan Herrera got in on the fun, with a rare home run of his own. Afterward, Anthony Rizzo coaxed Herrera into taking a curtain call as well. Even though the crowd wasn’t demanding one. He popped out of the dugout and basically got crickets. Hilarious.
Just another typical, incredibly enjoyable Cubs win. It completed a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks, and the Cubs head to St. Louis 3 games behind the Pirates and 8.5 behind the Cardinals.
Dan Haren gets the start today. It would be a great time for him to have his best start so far with the Cubs.
Other notes
* Jesse Rogers tweets that Carl Edwards Jr. may be called up to the Cubs today. I haven’t seen anything official, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Edwards came off the disabled list down in Iowa earlier this week. I’m looking forward to seeing how his stuff plays in the big leagues. Edwards was one of the main pieces in the Matt Garza trade in 2013. He came over along with Mike Olt (who is out of the organization) and pitchers Justin Grimm and Neil Ramirez.
* Tennessee Smokies outfielder Albert Almora has been placed on the disabled list. Almora was removed from a game earlier this week after trying to make a leaping catch. It’s too bad for Almora, who has finished 2015 on a strong note. Unfortunately, Almora has struggled to stay healthy since being drafted by the Cubs sixth overall in 2012.
* Former Cub Mike Olt appeared in his first game with his new team, the White Sox, yesterday. He went 2-for-4 with two strikeouts.
