PECOTA Projects Cubs to Win More Than 90 Games
The 2025 PECOTA predictions have been released and the Cubs are heavy favorites to win the National League Central. They’re projected to finish the season with 90.6 wins, which would easily win the division if everything plays out according to the respected computer model.
Another projection system (this time PECOTA) that is a BIG fan of the 2025 Chicago Cubs. That 90.6 is the third highest in all of baseball. pic.twitter.com/jsJZYyunga

The idea that the Cubs are starting the season with a projected win total of 90+ wins is simply fantastic and well beyond what many would have expected just a few months ago. It gets even better when you consider that it’s 10 wins better than the projected second-place team. And this isn’t just a matter of the NL Central being a weak division.
PECOTA has the Cubs as the third-best team in all of baseball with an 87% chance to make the playoffs. They’re only 1.8 wins behind the Braves and could climb even higher with a big-ticket addition like Dylan Cease or Alex Bregman.
PECOTA projections just dropped! Their World Series favorites (using WS%):
Dodgers 20.7%
Braves 9.7%
Yankees 9.0%
Orioles 8.2%
Cubs 7.1%
Rangers 6.9%
Astros 6.1%
Mets 6.0%
Twins 4.7%
Phillies 4.6%Thoughts?

Having the fifth-best odds to win the World Series isn’t too shabby either. Jed Hoyer’s squad is listed alongside some top-tier teams when looking at odds to take home the Commissioner’s Trophy. Of course, projections are just that and a lot can change over the course of the season. Nonetheless, this is exciting to see as the Cubs prepare to head to Mesa for spring training.
And let’s not forget, Hoyer may not be done with the offseason additions.
