Pete Crow-Armstrong Changes Jersey to No. 4 This Season
Buying jerseys of any current players can be risky because of how frequently they change teams, but prospects bring a new wrinkle due to changing numbers after they reach the big leagues. Pete Crow-Armstrong debuted wearing 52 on the back of his jersey, but that has changed now that he’s solidified a spot in the Cubs lineup.
Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network asked Crow-Armstrong about the change to No. 4, and it turns out Jed Hoyer’s basketball skills sealed the deal. Hoyer jokingly made fun of Crow-Armstrong, saying that he had a “lineman’s number” and needed “a fast guy number.” Hoyer then bet his young star that if he made a shot on the team’s portable basketball hoop, PCA would have to change his number. As you’ve probably gathered, Hoyer sank the shot.
"Jed thought I needed a fast guy number."

The No. 4 was recently vacated when Alexander Canario was designated for assignment on Thursday, though there’s not word on whether that came as the result of a similar bet. Hoyer’s basketball talent has long been the subject of a popular meme that shows him “dunking” on the same rim that hosts pickup games at camp every spring.
Next time we need Jed Hoyer to go up to Ricketts and tell him to give him a blank check for Kyle Tucker's extension if he makes a shot. pic.twitter.com/tpd0PVhAe7

Maybe Hoyer needs to get his boss on the court for a quick game of H-O-R-S-E.
